Whitehall Watch

Whitehall Watch is a website edited by Professor Colin at Manchester Business School. He recently approached me about a site revamp, including an original header. I agreed and got to work.

This particular image was captured at the foot of Westminster, capturing the topic of interest and the structure that dominates the Whitehall village. I took a number of pictures using a high f-stop as I wanted both objects in focus. Just in case, I shot two frames at a lower f-stop and on returning to my laptop it was the clear winner. The signage looks good and sharp and hey, everyone knows the clock tower of Westminster without it being in focus.

Job done.

Everyone smiles in the same language

For so many reasons I love this photograph. It captures the one expression that binds all humanity - a smile. This special smile, no, two smiles, was captured at 6am in a Balinese rice field. I was blessed to be there and I only hope that the National Geographic publishes this photograph and allows the world to smile back.

Submitted to the National Geographic Magazine UK. In association with Canon.

Giant Sleepover

Over 50 kids from 14th Hackney Scout Group slept at Hamleys Toy Shop (Regent Street) in a giant Readybed. Events took place in the UK and abroad, breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest sleepover over of 24 hours.

London Time

Having just moved to London I am in search of photography projects, and the most obvious, so far, is the subject of time.

There are so many images you can take here where time remains illusive. It is a city that goes back two millennia, founded by the Romans, and any one shot can capture a period of history with no whisper of modern life.

Here are one or two early efforts on my part, but hopefully more to come.

Underground Overground

I am often guilty of limiting myself to the aperture creative option of my DSLR, but in a city of pace and movement I thought it a good idea to start to exploring the exposure setting.

Here are one or two rogue attempts (without a tripod). I was pleased with the tube train passing through the station (1/4), but the picture of the escalator (1/40) would have benefitted from a sharper subject. I think?

Baby Eyes

My first attempt at taking a photo of a lil'en. Again, I would have liked to have taken more of these images, but I was distracted by a party happening behind the scenes.
