7am Project - Tamarama to Bondi

Earth Hour [ Sydney ]

Sadly, these aren't going to hang in any exhibition. I was stationed on a old wooden sail boat that rolled to every small wave in the harbour. It was near impossible to keep the lens open for more than a second.

It was special evening though, and the pictures captured the aspect I was looking for. If you look closely the Sydney Harbour Bridge is in black-out, as is the Opera House and also the AMP tower.

Hindsight tells me that I should have taken a photo with the lights on, but I was busy chatting to a bloke from Wigan.

China Town

One or two shots from the streets of China Town - Sydney.
In both shots I was making use of my new Canon Speedlite - 430EX II. I wish I could tell you what settings I was using, but I was slightly caught up in the moment. Still, the images seem to suggest that this unit is going to open a pandora's box of opportunity when it comes to taking photos, and night photos in particular.

Scenes of Sydney

I was a tourist in our home city for the day.
Ah well, why not!?

Taronga

I don't think I have a future in wildlife photography, but I couldn't resist taking a snap or two of these stunning animals.
In all honesty, I'm not the greatest fan of Zoos, but I am led to believe they do outstanding conservation work and Taronga Zoo is no exception. Taronga also has an outstanding backdrop and environment for the animals to wander and play. The Kangaroos, for instance, happily mingle with the crowds!
Still, there were occasional sad sights of captivity and a few of the animals seemed in real distress.

... here are a few more takes from the Bondi Life Surfers beach dance, or something?

Green Staircase

"An image from last night's dream".

AMP tower in full colour

This was a chance shot taken during a Saturday shopping trip to the city.  I was actually walking across an intersection at the time, and was struck by the diffusing light. Click and the image was processed.

Back home, I thought the camera must have been set to monochrome, but no - it was taken in full colour. There just wasn't any colour to process. Just black and white.

Sydney Boat Bird

I don't remember too much about this shot. I must have taken it some weeks ago, but there is something quite interesting about it. If nothing else, I hope it will one day remind me of my time in Sydney and in particular the special ferries that cross the city each day ... and long may they continue.
Shot on my free'bie 75-300mm lens, 1/400, f/4.0, ISO 200.
